Hacettepe University
I have completed my internship at the Department of Pediatry, Metabolism Laboratory at the Hacettepe University at the end of my junior year. During this internship, thanks to the opportunity provided by Prof. Dr. Köksal Özgül, we made significant scientific progress together with PhD Lecturer Selda Ayhan and her team. This opportunity has been a turning point in my academic and professional life. I am grateful to my professors for their guidance, the knowledge they shared, and their encouraging approach throughout this process. During my undergraduate studies, I had the chance to integrate the theoretical knowledge I acquired in the field of Molecular Biology and Genetics with practical experience at Hacettepe University. The technical skills I gained and the ability to think scientifically while working with the team will play a crucial role in shaping my career.
Hacettepe University is one of Turkey’s distinguished institutions, hosting many prominent academics. During my time there, I gained practical skills that will greatly contribute to my future academic career. My first week was dedicated to observing and learning various techniques in the field of Molecular Biology. After this initial period, I had the opportunity to apply all these theoretical concepts in practice under the guidance of my academic advisors. The genetic disorder we studied had been identified exclusively in our patients, making it the first and only case worldwide! This discovery was both exciting and captivating for me. Spending a month in that laboratory, witnessing the ongoing research, further fueled my enthusiasm and deepened my knowledge on my journey to becoming a scientist.
Sabancı University
I have completed my internship in İsmail Çakmak’s Plant Physiology and Growth Laboratory at Sabancı University. During my internship, I gained many important experiences on how to conduct laboratory research, use of various devices and laboratory ethics, as well as how to organize with people and how to be an determined scientist. Additionally, i think this important milestone in my educational life will be of great importance for my future academic life. During this 11 week period I would like to express my sincere gratitude especially Prof. Dr. Ismail Cakmak and his great team for guidied me every situation, sharing their knowledge and experience.
During the 11-week period I spent at Sabancı University, which ranks among the top five universities in Turkey, I had the opportunity to work with Prof. Dr. İsmail Çakmak and his team, which was highly significant for my career. Prof. Dr. İsmail Çakmak is one of the world’s leading scientists in the field of plant science and was ranked first among scientists from Turkey in Stanford University’s 2023 list of ‘The World’s Most Influential Scientists.’ During my time there, I had the chance to observe his inspiring projects and apply many theoretical concepts in practice. Additionally, the motivation and support provided by his team, as well as their willingness to inform me about ongoing experiments, further encouraged me on my path to becoming a scientist.
