Hi! Merhaba!

Hello dear readers, my full name is Cansu Gönül. I am here to share my experiences and endeavour in the field of Molecular Biology and Genetics with you; welcome to my website!

About my Academic Life

I am currently a student in the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics at the Mugla Sitki Kocman University with an expected graduation date of June 2025. I did my voluntary internships at Sabancı and Hacettepe University. Additionally, I completed my TUBITAK (The Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey) project at the Mugla Sitki Kocman University under the guidance of my academic advisor. With all these experiences, I am ready to pursue a master’s program!

Mugla is a picturesque city located in the southwestern part of Turkey, renowned for its rich cultural heritage, natural beauty, and vibrant tourism industry. (If you are not familiar with Mugla, you likely know Bodrum, which is a district of Mugla!)

Mugla serves as an educational hub, home to Mugla Sitki Kocman University, which attracts both domestic and international students. With its combination of modern facilities and historical significance,

Mugla provides a dynamic environment for students and academics alike. Mugla Sitki Kocman University offers a robust academic environment with modern facilities and research opportunities.

The university’s Molecular Biology and Genetics department is equipped with state-of-the-art laboratories and provides a comprehensive curriculum that integrates theoretical knowledge with hands-on experience.

Participation in a Bioinnovation competition in the field of life sciences, health, and innovation

In the second year of my undergraduate studies, I participated in this competition with five teammates, focusing on S. aureus bacteria and developing ideas for its rapid diagnosis. We proposed a project and had the opportunity to present it to esteemed jury members, including biotechnology company owners and university professors, through a presentation after months of dedicated work. As the competition progressed, we focused on strategies for bringing our project to life. Discussing our work with prominent figures in both the academic and professional fields of our discipline was a truly invaluable experience for me.

Moreover, this competition encouraged me to collaborate effectively, enhance my presentation skills, speak confidently in public, and further develop my creativity.

18th Aykut Kence Evolution Conference

It was a program where valuable participants from Turkey and other countries discussed their ideas and projects on crucial topics such as Molecular Evolution, Cancer, Micro and Nanoplastics, and Neurodegeneration. This experience provided me with new perspectives and insights into various projects. The program lasted for two days, during which I had the opportunity to listen to 11 distinguished academics.

I believe that a successful scientist must possess three fundamental qualities: knowledge-based creativity, relentless hard work, and perseverance in the face of failure.
