Freshman year

I started my undergraduate studies in the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics at Mugla Sitki Kocman University in 2021, a program I have been pursuing with great enthusiasm. In my first year, I took courses such as General Mathematics, Physics, and Biostatistics. In addition to these, I attended General Biology and General Chemistry Laboratory courses, where I learned and applied fundamental techniques such as

– acid-base titration,

-pH determination,

-temperature-reaction relationships,

-solution preparation and adjustment,

-quantitative analysis

-soap synthesis.

Sophomore year

My second year played a more significant role in helping me understand my field, allowing me to gain both theoretical and practical knowledge that deepened my understanding of my discipline. During this year I participated General Microbiology Laboratory and I’ve learned applied methods such as

-Sterilization and disinfection methods, microorganism culture methods (smear-plate method, pour-plate method, seeding in liquid culture, streak plate method)

-Microorganism colony examination

-Microorganism counting methods (Spectrophotometric method, dilution method, cell counting method with Petroff-Hausser Slide )

-Microorganism staining methods

-Antibiotic resistance testing

Junior year

My third year at university was a period when I fully focused on my department, explored various fields of Molecular Biology, learned fundamental laboratory techniques, and nurtured my scientific curiosity even further. Throughout this year, I attended courses such as Molecular Neurobiology, Physiology, Biotechnology, Immunology, and Forensic Entomology. Additionally, I had the opportunity to observe and perform experiments in the Biochemistry Laboratory;

-Total protein isolation from bacteria, protein quantification

-SDS-PAGE Gel Electrophoresis preparation, protein elution and

imaging with dye

-Enzyme activity determination, spectrophotometer analysis

-Hb determination in blood

-Blood group analysis

-Urine analysis

-Carbohydrate character analysis

-Lipid determination

-Free acid number determination

-Vitamin E and C determination,

-Antioxidant activity determination

Senior year

In my fourth year, I attended theoretical courses of great importance in my field, such as Bioinformatics, Cancer Biology and Genetics, and Plant Tissue Culture. Up to this point, I have taken part in numerous theoretical and practical courses covering various subfields of Molecular Biology and Genetics. I have continuously worked on improving myself both professionally and socially. This year, under the guidance of my academic advisor, I plan to complete my undergraduate thesis and graduate.
